Johnny Marks,born John David Marks,specialized in Christmas songs,writing a number of classics,including Holly Jolly Christmas,Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,Silver and Gold,and I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.Mr.Marks,who was educated at Colgate University and Columbia University,was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II,achieving the rank of Captain with the 26th Special Service Company.He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and four Battle Stars.He lived in Greenwich Village in New York City.Mr.Marks died of complications of diabetes at age 75 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery,the Bronx.
