Remembering Joe Cocker

This week is featured another video by the beloved British singer Joe Cocker, who died on 22 December 2014 in Crawford,Colorado. He was 70 years old.Born John Cocker in Sheffield,England,he started his career as a gas fitter at age 16,then took up touring in 1968,pleasing the fans with his trademark gravelly voice and intuitive grasp of songs that enabled him to bring out aspects of them that hadn't been heard before.
In 1970,Cocker starred in the documentary film "Mad Dogs&Englishmen."This week's selection "Feelin' Alright" is a film clip from that documentary. It was centered on one particular concert that took place at the Metropol in Berlin on 31 October.Indeed,Cocker would return to Berlin many years later and was there when the Berlin Wall was torn down. For that matter,he was also in New York on 9-11.
The documentary is named for the tour called "Mad Dogs&Englishmen,"referring to the large band he toured with at that time.Bandmembers included Leon Russell,Jim Gordon,Jim Keltner,Carl Radle,Bobby Keys and Rita Coolidge in the Space Choir of backing singers.
Besides The Beatles,Cocker admired musicians such as Ray Charles,Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.He has 97 soundtrack credits.
"Mad Dogs&Englishmen" has a rating from IMDb of 7.2 out of 10.
Joe Cocker is often recalled for his unforgettable performance of "A Little Help From My Friends" at Woodstock in 1969 with The Grease Band and his air guitar playing. He was the husband of Pam Baker.
We'll miss this gifted Englishman a lot.

Avril Lavigne Releases New Video;Jimenez Leads in Thailand Golf

It hasn't been easy for Avril Lavigne lately, the Canadian singer/songwriter who has been reaching the record charts for more than a decade now.In December 2014,she announced to her fans that she hasn't been feeling well and asked them for their prayers.A private person, she didn't specify the illness. On top of that, her marriage to fellow rock star Chad Kroeger is reportedly on the rocks.
In spite of this, the Ontario native has made a new Vevo music video for her single "Give You What You Like,"which is interspliced with footage from the Lifetime TV movie "Babysitter's Black Book,"about a group of young girls who turn their babysitting business into a prostitution ring to make more money.
Avril turned 30 last September. The recording artist, who is petite at 5'1" tall, also has a perfume called "Wild Rose" and a clothing line known as "Abbey Dawn."She is on her second marriage and just tweeted that she thinks it may be time for her to get a little doggie, now she has the time.*
In Huan Hin Thailand,51-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez, the oldest man to ever win a tournament on the European tour,is in the lead after two rounds of the True Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain.Jimenez, who won twice on the European Tour last season at the age of 50,started 2015 with a win on the Champions Tour.He shot an excellent 11 under par 66 today, including seven birdies and one bogey.
I'm very happy,Jimenez said.I am very disappointed to make bogey on the last, but overall I played very solid and made a lot of birdies.I have the flu and I'm very bunged up and slept terribly last night, but apart from that,I'm fine.*
Indeed,Jimenez made an eagle at the ninth hole in the first round. The tournament is being held at the Black Mountain Golf Club.
