Cavendish Finds Renewal at the Tour de France

Exhibiting his astonishing instant acceleartion talent,Mark Cavendish of Great Britain (Isle of Man) surprised cycling fans at the 2021 Tour de France by staging a last minute surge to the lead of the race's fourth stage on 29 June.The win solidifies the British cyclist's reputation as a great sprint cyclist,a discipline that takes place on relatively flat terrain.Cavendish,36,notched his 31st stage victory in the Tour,drawing him closer to the all-time record of 34 stage wins belonging to the great Eddy Merckx of Belgium.Longtime fans remembered Mark's earlier triumphs in the Tour in 2008 and 2011,respectively.He had also garnered four stage wins in the Tour of Turkey. Indeed,Cavendish is now favoured to win more stages at this year's Tour de France-this after the man known as "Cav" to his friends was overcome by tears of joy as he was embraced by his brother cyclists following his spectacular move to the head of stage 4.Cav had seemed to be a cyclist on the wane,having not won for five years.Yet he always retained a substantial coterie of admirers,including the first-rate team Deceuninck-Quick-Step,whose firm support proved instrumental to his rebirth as a cyclist.All but dismissed by many,his stalwart performance in TDF 21 has garnered him the Green Jersey of points leader.
