1.US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt has had an important meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople toady,24 May 2019.They discussed a broad range of topics,ranging from Patriarch Bartholomew's upcoming pastoral visit to the United States,to the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East.[Patriarch Bartholomew's visit to the US will be this autumn;not in July as was previously thought.That way,Archbishop Elpidophoros of America will have time to be enthroned and get settled into his new ministry before this major event in the life of the Church,the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to America.*
2.It has been revealed that His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece will visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople next month,June 2019.Relations between the Church of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarchate had been strained for some time;but have noticeably improved with Patriarch Bartholomew's visit to Greece this past week,where the Patriarch opened a new Gerontology Centre of the Church of Greece,a beautifully appointed facility at Dilesi,Thessaly for the social welfare needs of the elderly and their families dedicated to St.Porphyrios of Kavsokalyvia.The centre includes more than 60 beds for elderly reasidents and a new church.*
3.In Ukraine,a Greek archimandrite,the Very Reverend Epiphanios (Demetriou),will be ordained Bishop of Mariupol,Ukraine for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine tomorrow,25 May 2019.Clerics of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be present at the service.Archimadrite Demetriou,who served in the Metropolis of Dimitrios and Almyros,Thessaly, has been honoured by Patriarch Bartholomew for his support of the Halki Theological School in Turkey.
