Ringo Starr - Grow Old With Me (Lyric Video) - song by John Lennon ft.backing vocals and bass by Paul McCartney
This song was one of John Lennon's last compositions.It was intended for his projected 1981 Milk and Honey album.He left some demo recordings of it.Here his two surviving band mates,Ringo and Paul,recorded it with a string arrangement for Ringo's 2019 album What's My Name.

Updates on Julian Lennon and Nelly Korda
Julian Lennon's new album is out.It's called "Jude" because it is one of his nicknames as "Hey Jude" was one of three Beatles songs inspired by him,along with "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Good Night".He is the son of John and Cynthia Lennon.Julian Lennon is 59.*
The LPGA season has ended with the CME Group Tour Championship having concluded Sunday at the Tiburon Club in Naples,Florida.Lydia Ko of New Zealand won the tournament,her 19th LPGA victory.She's 25 now and plans to retire at 30.Nelly Korda,24,finished tied for 10th at -8,which gave her just enough points to finish the season as World Number One in the Rolex World Golf Rankings Women over Lydia Ko.Korda had overcome an illness this season from a blot clot which had to be surgically removed,causing her to miss the season's first major.*

Late Sixties Treasures From the Music Vaults
A number of historic Eric Clapton performances are featured in tonight's lineup."Badge" is from Cream's last album "Goodbye," but was written and performed by Eric Clapton and George Harrison,as well as Cream members Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker."Blind Faith" was a super group featuring Eric Clapton,Steve Winwood,Rick Grech and Ginger Baker that made only one album and performed only one concert,the Hyde Park,London concert excerpted here with "Presence of the Lord" written by Eric Clapton.Clapton plays again in "Tribute to Elmore" with Jimmy Page,a track from early in the two master guitarists' careers.
Perhaps most interesting of all is Clapton playing guitar with John Lennon,Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones on bass and Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience on drums.Calling themselves "The Dirty Mac," they played "Yer Blues," which is John Lennon's song from The Beatles' "White Album" for a segment of the Rolling Stones' ill-fated project "Rock And Roll Circus."The spectacle blended songs with circus performers from Sir Robert Fosset's Circus,but the Stones felt their own performance was bland and upstaged by The Who,so they shelved the show.A bootleg album of the songs was circulated,however,including "Yer Blues." The song was recorded on 11 December,1968 at InterTel video studio in Stonebridge House,Wembley,London.Glyn Johns and Jimmy Miller did the sound recording on Olympic Sound Studio's mobile studio.The video is by director Michael Lindsay-Hogg and cameraman Tony Richmond,who later worked on The Beatles' "Let It Be."
"The Dirty Mac" also played a blues jam and covered a few rock-n-roll classics,Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue" and Elvis' "It's Now Or Never."
The entire "Rock And Roll Circus" footage,including "Yer Blues," was officially released in 1995.

Special Anniversary Presentation:Live Peace From Toronto 1969
This weekend is the 45th anniversary of John Lennon's performance at Varsity Stadium in the University of Toronto.It was his first solo performance,and the first ever live recording project by a Beatle.On September 13,1969,John Lennon and friends went onstage as "Plastic Ono Band" and performed a set of old rockers,plus some newer Lennon songs."Yer Blues" wasn't totally new,having been included in the White Album;but this was its first live performance."Cold Turkey" was totally new,and "Give Peace A Chance" had just been issued as a Beatles single.*
The live set had been hastily arranged when the concert promoters invited Lennon to appear the day before the event.He rounded up guitarist Eric Clapton,bassist Klaus Voorman and drummer Alan White,and they rehearsed while flying in from London to Toronto,as well as one time at the festival.Alan White initially thought Lennon was an imposter when he called to invite him along,and Eric Clapton at first wasn't sure what was going on.In the event,they gelled pretty well,considering the circumstances.*
Other performers at the Toronto festival included Chuck Berry,Fats Domino,The Doors and Chicago.*
Lennon went back to Abbey Road Studios in London and mixed the LP basically in one day,although he returned to studio and refined the mix in October.The Beatles' American label Capitol Records was reluctant to distribute the slapdash project,but Lennon prevailed in the end.The album rose to number 10 in the Billboard Top 200 chart.It failed to make the British charts,however.*
Some disliked Yoko Ono's screaming on some of the tracks.To this blog,her screaming was appropriate for the songs "Cold Turkey" and "Yer Blues," as they are about emotional and physical pain.On an historical level,the concert and its album marked a turning point in Lennon's career;never again would he perform with The Beatles.Musically,the set was an engaging blend of past and present,the familiar and the foreign.

Fine Arts Review:The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour
It is almost the 45th anniversary of the first airing of Beatles' short film "Magical Mystery Tour."On December 26,1967,the BBC broadcast the film,which was Sir Paul McCartney's brainchild,to a national audience.The film was panned by the public and savaged by critics.It lacked a clearly defined plot,they complained;it was just a load of rubbish.
That was before the era of music videos.Clearly,sensibilities have changed.Today,it's hard to understand what the British were so outraged about.Watching a newly restored colour edition of the film proved to be a thoroughly entertaining experience.
To begin with,the music is as strong as ever.Classics such as "I Am The Walrus" and "Fool On The Hill" haven't lost any of their clever appeal.This witty film only accentuates them.
Some of the dialogue between Ringo Starr and his Aunt Jessie:
"I've had enough of it.I can't stand it anymore."
"Don't get historical."
It does indeed have a plot and a fine sense of place,although not completely linear.There are several dream or daydream sequences in the course of a grab bag sort of bus ride from the city into the British countryside.There is a distinct carnival atmosphere pervading the mystery tour."Roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour.Step right this way."
The picture is a montage of fun moments and songs that arise as the bus careens and cruises into the countryside:a game of tug of war;a love sequence between Aunt Jessie and the bus driver Mr.Blood Vessel;a manic army sergeant portrayed by comic actor and Beatles favorite Victor Spinetti;John Lennon's fatherly affection for a little girl on the bus;a singalong with an accordionist;even a fairly graphic striptease in a nightclub when darkness falls and the bus returns to town.
You feel you really have felt some magic,peering through a window at the vivid colours of the British imagination in the 1960s.It's a pity the original showing was met with such a lack of one.
"Magical Mystery Tour" is available on DVD.It runs about 53 minutes.

Fine Arts Review-Annie Leibovitz:Pilgrimage
I started at the top.The first photography exhibition I ever attended is by the brilliant and controversial American portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz.Oddly enough,there isn't one portrait in it.Leibovitz has photographed celebrities from John Lennon to Queen Elizabeth II,but took a break from her metier this time.
"Annie Leibovitz:Pilgrimage" is a fascinating ramble through the worlds of some celebrities she didn't get to photograph,including American writers Emily Dickinson and Ralph Waldo Emerson.She photographed Dickinson's last surviving dress-a white lacy affair-and Emerson's hiking hat.
She visited Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion and captured a television he shot a hole in.She took a picture of Thomas Jefferson's experimental garden and Abraham Lincoln's stovepipe hat that he wore the night he was assassinated.
This exhibition is an historical magic carpet ride,principally through Americana,with a few diversions such as Sigmund Freud's famous couch in London.There is a soft,painterly quality to the photos.Indeed,Leibovitz began as a painter while attending the San Fransisco Art Institute.
It's something I will reflect on for a number of days,at the very least.In my book,that's a considerable success.
Leibovitz,63,was the longtime chief photographer for Rolling Stone magazine and,more recently,Vanity Fair.She was the subject of a PBS "American Masters" program,and received the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship(HonFRPS) for a sustained,significant contribution to the art of photography.
The exhibition is at Gettysburg National Military Park's Museum and Visitor Center through January 30.Admission charge.No flash photography or videotaping is permitted in the Museum.
