Elise Cranny completes Nationals distance double with 5K win, Worlds standard - US Nationals at Eugene,Oregon

Elise Cranny qualified for Worlds (World Athletics Championships) in Budapest,Hungary by meeting the time standard.She had earlier taken the 10,000 meters at the same meet.Alicia Monson also qualified for Worlds in the 5000 meters and 10000 meters,while Natosha Rogers qualified for Worlds in the 5000 meters.

Rockets On Playoffs Track;Valero Texas Open

The Houston Rockets continued their drive to the NBA Playoffs by dominating the Portland Trailblazers Friday night 116-98.The Rockets bumped their record up to 43-33 on the strength of James Harden and Jeremy Lin's play.
Harden scored 33 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists,and has scored at least 20 points 61 times this season,putting him in pursuit of Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon's record of 67 20-point games in a season.Olajuwon was a 12-time NBA All-Star and MVP in 1994.He also played for the Rockets nearly his entire career,retiring from the Toronto Raptors in 2002.The Nigerian-born,7-foot tall Olajuwon is the all-time leader in blocks;8th in total points scored;and 11th in rebounds.
Jeremy Lin contributed 22 points,4 rebounds and 8 assists to the Rockets' important win.For the Trail Blazers,LaMarcus Aldridge led with 32 points,13 rebounds and 3 assists,while Wesley Matthews notched 18 points,3 rebounds and 4 assists.
Portland is out of playoff contention.
Attending the game at the Rose Garden in Portland,Oregon were 20,400 fans.
At the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio,American Billy Horschel topped the leader board after the second round Friday at eight under par.Horschel,26,came in second at last week's Shell Houston Open and has made 9 of 10 cuts this season.He turned pro in 2009.
Former world number one Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland was still in contention Friday at five under par.
The Izod IndyCar Series moves to the Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds,Alabama for the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama on Sunday.The NBC Sports channel will carry the race live at 3pm Eastern.

Californians Feel Japan Quake Aftermath

Californians were hit in the pocketbook by the Japan earthquake's attendant tsunami Friday.Millions of dollars of damage were done to harbors and boats along the SoCal coast by the powerful waves rippling off the Pacific.Docks were ripped from harbors in both California and Oregon,and dozens of boats were lost to the aquatic aftereffects of the Asian earthquake.
One California man was missing at sea and feared dead by the U.S. Coast Guard,having been swept away by the tsunami.The town of Newport Beach warned residents by robocalls Friday morning and closed Newport Beach Elementary School,but gave the all clear Friday afternoon.
The Toshiba Classic golf tournament,part of the Champions Tour of senior pro golfers,went ahead as scheduled at the Newport Beach Country Club.South African Nick Price led the field with a first round 60 for a -11,while German Bernhard Langer,the defending Charles Schwab Cup champion,tied for second with three Americans:Mark O'Meara,Mark Wiebe and Brad Bryant,all having shot 65s for -6s.
Though finishing up for the day,stocks drifted lower for the week,hurt by renewed European debt fears,the Libyan civil war and Japan's killer quake,with the S&P giving up 1.30.In the futures market Friday evening,the S&P rose a strong 11.70,and 10 year Treasury bond prices fell as the optimism from Friday's late trading carried over to Monday's prospects.

Rose Leads Bulls,Market Confident

Chicago native Derrick Rose led the Bulls to an 88-84 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at the United Center in the windy city Friday.The understated star bagged 29 points,9 assists and 5 rebounds.The Bulls brought a sellout crowd to its feet as the game remained competitive into the closing minutes.
Rose said they stayed together,fought through it and beat a good team,thanking God for the success.
The market saw its own success this week,as the Dow edged up 0.3,the S&P rose 1.3 and the NASDAQ added 1.8 for its highest close since December,2007.A consumer confidence reading also rose in November,reassuring the market that the economy is healing,however slowly.
Over a foot of fresh snowfall is powdering the West,reassuring skiers at Breckenridge,Colorado and Mt.Bachelor,Oregon.The Northeast is also cold,with Stowe,Vermont reporting 17F and light snow.
The S&P futures climbed 8.0 this evening,and bond futures also ascended.
