Winds gusting up to 25 mph were a limiting factor for the golfers on Friday.Those at +4 or better have a realistic chance to win,it's been said on the CBS broadcast.The highly popular Phil Mickelson had a tough second round,but still was able to stay within four strokes of the lead with some good play when he needed it,giving him a fair shot at taking his fourth green jacket.

The Rolling Stones;Selena Gomez;The Masters

Tonight's music includes two Chuck Berry songs performed by The Rolling Stones in 1969,plus a recent Selena Gomez release."Carol" and "Little Queenie" are restored archival material from what looks like 16mm film footage.Very well done,because you can't tell there was ever a problem.The concerts took place in 1969.One of the most significant things about them is the appearance of master guitarist Mick Taylor,seen at Jagger's right,who was a new member of the Stones at that time,selected to replace original member Brian Jones.
The Hertfordshire,England native Taylor is considered by many to be the Stones' most accomplished guitarist in their career.He was a full time member of the band from 1969-74,and they were shocked when he quit,partly to get away from the drug problems of that era and partly because of clashes with Keith Richards,as well as songwriting credits he felt he was not getting.Taylor says he always felt he would not be with the Stones indefinitely.He was in turn replaced by Ronnie Wood.
Taylor was a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers from 1966-69 before he auditioned for the Stones at a recording session,having been recommended by John Mayall.He didn't realise it was an audition.He just thought it was session work,but Jagger enjoyed his melodic style of playing.Taylor played on some of the Stones' classic albums,including Let It Bleed;Sticky Fingers;and Exile On Main Street.He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the Stones in 1989.
Rolling Stone magazine ranks Taylor as number 37 on its list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time.After the Stones,he went on to work with artists such as Jack Bruce and Bob Dylan.In 2010,he and Jagger went back into the studio to finish the previously unreleased track "Plundered My Soul" for the 2010 re-release of the LP Exile On Main Street.
Since late 2012,Taylor has been appearing with the Stones onstage again,including every date of their 2013 North American tour and at the Glastonbury Festival in England in June,2013.*
Selena Gomez's "Love You Like A Love Song"(MTV Version) was posted to YouTube in February.It had 493 likes and 23 dislikes as of Thursday,out of 81,603 views.The video gives a nod to her Mexican heritage with a pinata scene among Mexican musicians.There is also a sitar player in it.Not sure what India means to Selena-it is also given a nod in "Come&Get It" that was featured here a short while ago.*
The Masters is underway at the vast,difficult course of Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.As the course continues to dry out this weekend,it will play even faster and harder.American Bubba Watson,the 2012 winner,has the early lead at seven under par,while John Senden of Australia is second at -4,and a number of golfers are tied for third at -3,including defending champion Australian Adam Scott and Sweden's Jonas Blixt.The tournament was conceived as a special event that would capture the spirit of golf.

Day Leads at The Masters;Mountain Lion Roams LA Suburb

At The Masters,the first of the four major golf tournaments of the year,Australian Jason Day topped the leader board with his second round six under par 68.Day,25,is twenty first on the PGA money list.He has three top ten finishes so far this year and came in second at the 2011 Masters.
Also of note on the venerable Augusta National course in Georgia,53-year old Fred Couples was tied for second place with another Aussie,Marc Leishman,and German Bernhard Langer,55,was in contention as well,leading the field in driving accuracy at 89.3%.Couples and Langer mostly play on the Champions Tour these days,the PGA's tour for older pros.

A mountain lion prowled the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale,California Friday for several hours.The 120 pound big wildcat explored several residences,leaping over fences.No one was injured in the city of 191,719,which lies east of LA,adjacent to the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest.
Resident John Yankosky said he observed the mountain lion looking at him and his dog Max through his sliding glass door.
The same neighbourhood was recently visited by a black bear.
The mountain lion was subdued by Fish and Wildlife officers with three tranquilizer darts.It fell asleep on a patio,but they had to remove portions of decking to extract the healthy,tawny male.The neighbours watched as he was taken back to the mountains,where he was released.The lion was uninjured during the incident.
In rare instances,mountain lions have attacked and killed or injured people and pets in California.

Mickelson Moves Up;Market Slips

Stocks suffered their worst fall of the year this week,with the S&P 500 Index dropping 0.74% on fears about Spain's debt problem and the Federal Reserve's reluctance to provide further aid to the market.For the year,however,the S&P is still up an impressive 11.17%.
The CBOE VIX Volatility Index rose 7.74% on the week.
At The Masters golf tournament in Augusta,Georgia,Phil Mickelson,41,continued to progress,shooting a second round two under par 68 after Thursday's initial struggles had yielded only a 74.Mickelson's round was second only to 52 year-old Fred Couples' 67.Couples and Jason Dufner shared the top of the leaderboard at five under heading into Easter weekend.
Tiger Woods cursed as he shot a poor second round 75 at the majestic Augusta National course famous for its pine trees.It is the first of the year's four major tournaments.
The S&P futures fell a modest 3.48 on Friday in response to the Labor Department's disappointing employment report showing a March jobs gain well below expectations.Bond index futures rose in price.
Next week,earnings season gets underway with Alcoa reporting its Q1 results.

Tiger's Good Round,Western Weather

Tiger Woods is showing consistency at The Masters,a tradition-steeped tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.Woods played intently on Friday,finishing with a strong 2nd round seven under par 66.He was tied for 3rd place with South Korean K.J. Choi.Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy was dominant at -10,while Australian Jason Day tied a tournament record for the lowest 2nd round score for a first-timer at Augusta,shooting an eight under 64.Also of note,Fred Couples,51,is in contention with his 2nd round five under 68.
Weather conditions will be hot and humid for the remainder of the tournament.To the west,storms are taking many forms,from apple-sized hail in Butler County,Kansas to a heavy snow forecast in Flagstaff,Arizona.There may be wind gusts up to 75 mph in the Southern Plains,and a 50,000 acre brush fire raged in North Texas.
Stocks did not rage this week,with the S&P down slightly for the week,pressured by soaring oil prices.Gold closed at a record high 1474.10 an ounce Friday.The S&P futures were down a modest 4.70 Friday evening,and bond interest rate futures also dropped.Shaping trading next week will be the start of earnings season as Alcoa reports on Monday,JP Morgan Chase on Wednesday,Google on Thursday and Bank of America on Friday.

Update:Rory McIlroy continues to decisively top the leader board with a four stroke lead heading into Sunday's final round.Tiger Woods and Fred Couples are still in contention,along with Jason Day and former Masters champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina.Phil Mickelson is a mathematical long shot for his fourth green jacket at the tournament.

Golf Is Normal Again

The Masters is on,drawing viewers into its tranquil intensity,which is the genius of golf broadcasts.Tiger Woods is there,but he's taken up where he left off.The girl stories have faded into the background already.It's almost as if they happened to someone else in some other sport.They just don't seem to matter much anymore,unless you're the National Enquirer.
Wall Street has also been tranquil this week.The Dow rose 0.6,while the S&P moved up 1.4 and the NASDAQ led the field with a 2.1.It was the sixth straight week of moderately higher performance.It has become a near-perfect market.Today's volume was very light,though,at less than a billion shares.That is a flaw.The lack of conviction persists-a reminder that just over a year ago we had hit rock bottom,a fall for the ages.
It's hard to have conviction when there are still so many foreclosures and small businesses can't get the loans they need.Those headwinds may be breezes,but they're still there.
The S&P futures were up 8.9 early this evening.Treasury futures were up as well.Mets fans were freezing at Citi Field as the Mets led the Washington Nationals.
