About Shawn Phillps;Evian Masters Golf
Tonight is featured another song by American singer-songwriter Shawn Phillips,"Song for Sagittarians."The native of Fort Worth,Texas was born in 1943,during World War II,the son of best-selling spy novelist Philip Atlee, who took his family around the world with him. This gave young Shawn the chance to absorb many musical styles, seeding an eclectic approach that has pleased his large and dedicated following over the course of his 20 albums and countless tour dates. He is currently touring in Quebec,Canada.
Phillips draws on folk-rock,pop,jazz,progressive and classical influences. He has likewise mastered a number of guitar types, from electric and acoustic 6 and 12-string single neck to double neck instruments, and even to his own way of playing the sitar.*
After serving in the US Navy,Phillips ended up in California and the folk music scene of the early 1960s.He went on to co-write and perform songs with Donovan Leitch in England, although mostly uncredited for it,and played in world music festivals and club dates. In 1992,A&M Records recognised his significant fan base by issuing a best of LP,including a new song.*
In LPGA golf, the season's final major is underway with the Evian Masters taking place at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian les Bains,France. The setting is between the Alpine foothills of Eastern France and Lake Geneva,Switzerland. At the second round,South Korean Mi Hyang Lee topped the leader board with her four under par 67;while American Morgan Pressel, who hasn't won a tournament in seven years, was second with a six under 65.Nicole Broch Larsen of Denmark secured third place on the board with her second round four under par 67,still impressive after her victory in the Ladies European Tour's Helsingborg,Sweden Open last weekend, just over the border from her hometown.

Demi Lovato's Garden City Show;Selena Gomez in Studio City
The summer solstice is Saturday.Happy Summer, dear readers. Many artists are currently on tour, such as The Rolling Stones and Demi Lovato,21.Demi performs a free show tomorrow at 7 pm at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City,New York. It's sponsored by Microsoft to celebrate the Grand Opening of their new store at the Mall. The Grand Opening ceremony is at 10 am.The concert gates open at 5 pm.Accuweather is calling for partly cloudy skies Saturday with a low of 64F and a high of 79,so no problem in that department for the Northeast parking lot concert. At least 1900 tickets for the event were being distributed at the Mall on Friday night.
To get an idea of what Demi is like in concert you can check out the video of "Really Don't Care" from her current Neon Lights Tour featuring Cher Lloyd. The song is the new single from her latest album DEMI.
The new Microsoft store is offering a free weekly YouthSpark summer camp for kids 8-13.They can learn to build websites and video games, direct movies and snap perfect photos, according to Microsoft. The store is located at:
Roosevelt Field Mall
630 Old Country Road,Space #1140A
Garden City,New York 11530
(516)742-8000*
Demi's close friend and fellow Latina Selena Gomez is featured here in "My Dilemma" with lyrics. It's from her Selena Gomez&The Scene album When The Sun Comes Down (2011).She turns 22 on 22 July. The Grand Prairie,Texas native still visits her home state and has some real Mexican food.Monday, however, she was seen shopping in Studio City,California in her midriff-baring blue knit and distressed jeans. The chauffered star also sported gradient sunglasses and skyhigh nude stilettos.*
The Rolling Stones have changed remarkably little in the past eight years, which is just the way their fans want it.If anything, frontman Mick Jagger looks better than he did in 2006.A graduate of The London School of Economics,he seems to be good at foreign languages. The Stones still appeal to a diverse audience of all ages.
"She's So Cold" is from their album Emotional Rescue (1980).
"She's so cold

Demi Lovato;Selena Gomez;Michigan State
Today's videos feature two American women who happen to be close friends.Demi(Demetria) Lovato and Selena Gomez are both 21,and both are of Mexican descent.
Lovato is a native of Albuquerque,New Mexico, while Gomez hails from Grand Prairie,Texas.
The two Christians met as child stars on the "Barney&Friends" TV set, then graduated to the Disney Channel, starring together in the TV movie "Princess Protection Program."Lovato is currently appearing in the fifth season of "Glee,"and Gomez has been doing film work in "Behaving Badly,"scheduled for a September 2014 release.
They have a huge fan base, with many being fans of both artists. Both stars have been in rehab for one reason or another.
Of the two,Lovato is the power singer, said to have a full voice range of three octaves above middle C.It's a talent that commands so much respect,I wanted to share at least two of her videos."Give Your Heart A Break" is a live TV performance from 2012 of Lovato's colossal hit from her third album "Unbroken,"while "Let It Go" is the official single from the Disney blockbuster "Frozen."It was posted to YouTube four months ago and had 112,898,696 views as of Thursday afternoon.
Gomez's "Come&Get It" from her first solo LP "Stars Dance"(2013)is fascinating in that it draws on Indian influences. The video affords a spectacular natural setting for Gomez's sultry hit, which had 225,046,104 views. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard chart.*
In NCAA men's basketball, number one Virginia was sent home by number four Michigan State Firday night at Madison Square Garden. The Spartans slipped by the Cavaliers 61-59,led by Brandon Davison's 24 points.Joe Harris and Malcolm Brogden scored 17 points each for Virginia. The Cavs were slightly less accurate with their free throws.

In the Zone:Carmelo Anthony;Music;More North Wind
It was a career night for Carmelo Anthony and a welcome break from losing as the New York Knicks creamed the Charlotte Bobcats 125-96 Friday Night at Madison Square Garden.Anthony broke the Knicks' five game losing streak and their old scoring record with his 62 points.Bernard King held the old record of 60,which he scored on Christmas Day 1984.King said he was absolutely delighted it was Anthony who broke his longtime record.
It was also a scoring record for the present day Madison Square Garden, which opened in 1968.Kobe Bryant held the old record of 61 points;while Wilt Chamberlain scored 73 points at the old Garden in November 1962 for the San Francisco Warriors, who have since moved to Oakland.*
Other Knicks contributed to the win, including J.R. Smith with his 14 points and Tyson Chandler with 6 rebounds, but they consciously focused the game on Anthony when they realised a record was in the making. Before the game, they had showed him a motivational video by his personal hero, boxing legend Muhammad Ali.It was a night of fun for the Knicks, bringing their season record to 16-27.They held onto third place in the Atlantic Division.
Al Jefferson led the Bobcats with 25 points and 9 rebounds.*
The barnbuster winter of 2014 brought glazed roads to East Texas and Louisiana Friday, freezing bridges and overpasses in unaccustomed Houston and San Antonio, and causing road wrecks. The dipping jet stream will continue sending frigid Canadian air down into much of the country in the new week, making natural gas prices uncomfortably high. This blog has shortened morning walks in the stubborn wind.*
This week's videos of "Lucky Star" and "The Last Time" balance Madonna and The Rolling Stones in their young tracks, the masculine with the feminine. She is the slinkiest singer in that take, let me tell you.The Stones were building their early success in the British Isles, founding what was to come worldwide.

Grizzlies Replace Knicks;Air Force Earns Bowl
A spate of late games delayed publication tonight. At FedEx Forum in Memphis, the Memphis Grizzlies knocked the New York Knicks out of top position in the NBA and seized it for themselves with their 105-95 victory.Down by 21 points in the fourth period, the Knicks reduced that gulf to eight points, but couldn't close the deal.Shooting was lackluster by the Knicks, who had come into the game with a 6-0 record.
Leading the Knicks was Raymond Felton with his 18 points and 3 rebounds;Zack Randolph notched 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies. At 7-1,the Grizzlies have a 4-0 record at home. The Knicks continue to top their Atlantic Division, with the Brooklyn Nets being second at 4-2.
In college football,Air Force dominated Hawaii 21-7 at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, earning bowl eligibility for a school record 6th straight season. The Falcons scored all their points on the ground;indeed, they didn't throw one pass the entire game.Cody Goetz ran for one touchdown, while Wes Cobb added two more.
Goetz says he is mocked for his diminutive stature by opponents, but they shut up when he runs the football into the end zone.He is able to hurtle over them.
Air Force held Hawaii to zero first down conversions in the second half. They are expected to play in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on December 29 in Fort Worth,Texas.
