It was also a scoring record for the present day Madison Square Garden, which opened in 1968.Kobe Bryant held the old record of 61 points;while Wilt Chamberlain scored 73 points at the old Garden in November 1962 for the San Francisco Warriors, who have since moved to Oakland.*
Other Knicks contributed to the win, including J.R. Smith with his 14 points and Tyson Chandler with 6 rebounds, but they consciously focused the game on Anthony when they realised a record was in the making. Before the game, they had showed him a motivational video by his personal hero, boxing legend Muhammad Ali.It was a night of fun for the Knicks, bringing their season record to 16-27.They held onto third place in the Atlantic Division.
Al Jefferson led the Bobcats with 25 points and 9 rebounds.*
The barnbuster winter of 2014 brought glazed roads to East Texas and Louisiana Friday, freezing bridges and overpasses in unaccustomed Houston and San Antonio, and causing road wrecks. The dipping jet stream will continue sending frigid Canadian air down into much of the country in the new week, making natural gas prices uncomfortably high. This blog has shortened morning walks in the stubborn wind.*
This week's videos of "Lucky Star" and "The Last Time" balance Madonna and The Rolling Stones in their young tracks, the masculine with the feminine. She is the slinkiest singer in that take, let me tell you.The Stones were building their early success in the British Isles, founding what was to come worldwide.

Paramore's Hayley Williams;Canada's New Tennis Star
Paramore has been touring in Australia recently.Singer/songwriter Hayley Williams, along with guitarist Taylor York and bass player Jeremy Davis, comprise the group.Williams,25,is a native of the Deep South.Born in Meridian,Mississippi, she moved to Franklin,Tennessee when her parents divorced in 2002 and still lives there.A precocious talent,by age 14 she was co-writing pop songs in Nashville.
Williams was soon signed by Atlantic Records and insisted on being part of an alternative rock group, not a solo pop artist as Atlantic wanted. The label changed its mind and Paramore was formed.Their first album was released in 2005 on Atlantic's niche label Fueled by Ramen when Williams was 16.Three more have followed, the latest being "Paramore."
In 2010,Williams reached the Top 10,being featured with rapper B.o.B. in his song "Airplane,"which went to number one in the UK and New Zealand. The eldest of three sisters, she is a Christian.
Williams seems to prefer making funny faces when she is photographed. It is rather hard to find recent straight-faced photos of her.She has more than four million Facebook likes.*
The Australian Open is well underway in Melbourne, and Canada's Eugenie Bouchard,19,is all the rage there. An attractive blonde, she has a boisterous male fan club attired in appropriate t-shirts,singing and chanting loudly at her matches. The Montrealer has reached the fourth round, the farthest she has ever gotten in a Grand Slam tournament.
Another glam girl,Maria Sharapova of Russia, has also advanced to the fourth round.*
The New York Knicks did not advance their cause, being blown out by the first place Los Angeles Clippers 109-95 Friday night.Carmelo Anthony did achieve a team milestone with his 26 points and season-high 20 rebounds. He is the first Knick since 2010 to score 25 points and 20 rebounds.

The key to understanding Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" is reading the lyrics.
Billie Jean is not my lover.
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one.
The kid is not my son.
In other words,it's a song about a paternity case.
Aha.Now you know.
I coupled this urban song with Neil Young's classic country track "Helpless."He was a member of Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young at the time,1969.Yes,he really is from North Ontario-Omemee,near Peterborough. The song is so evocative of a place like that, with its large lakes and Emily Provincial Park.He has performed it in the Farm Aid concert.*
The Los Angeles Lakers would like to escape to a rural area after being demolished by the LA Clippers Friday night 123-87 at Staples Center.Done.Sunk.Out of it-or maybe not if Steve Nash can get back into form. For now,the prospects of appearing in the playoffs are fast receding into the distance for the widely followed franchise, with their four game losing streak and being in next to last place in the Pacific Division. The injured Kobe Bryant was appropriately attired for the mood of Lakers fans in his all black suit, watching from the sidelines.
Blake Griffin pulverised the Lakers with 33 points and 12 rebounds.*
By contrast, hopes of New York Knicks fans are rising. They have climbed out of the basement to third place in the Atlantic Division with their three game win streak. They silenced the first place Miami Heat 102-92 Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
We're taking them one day at a time, said star forward Carmelo Anthony. We're still learning.I'm trying to get my team right. We've still got to get better.*

This Week's Videos;Orange Bowl;Winter Storm
It was a total headache getting the videos to you, with massive technical issues, plus a lot of sorting out to find the best of many live performances of the Ke$ha song.I thought the Aussie clip had the best balance of wildness and control, plus a little interview as well.*
The Rolling Stones video was also released in 2012 and features guitarist Mick Taylor and Bobby Keys on sax. It's interesting that out of more than 750,000 views,it has garnered less than 3,000 likes.Don't know what that's about-puzzlement by a younger generation of viewers?Hopefully there are more gems like that one in the vaults.*
The Clemson Tigers clawed their way to a 40-35 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Orange Bowl in Miami.Tiger Sammy Watkins was named MVP with his 16 receptions for 77 yards, and quarterback Taj Boyd racked up six touchdowns-five passing and one rushing,to close out his college career. He is the all-time leader in ACC touchdown passes in a season.
It was a great team performance, said coach Dabo Sweeney.Man,a lot of heart. Two years ago,we got our butts whipped on this same field. We obviously had some stupid plays.A hundred-eighteen years of Clemson football, and we've never had back to back eleven wins.Man,the best is yet to come.*
The Midwest and East are shivering from yet another big winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow in some areas and bore down with several record low temperatures, killing at least 11 people.More arctic air is on the way for the week ahead, and possibly still another snowstorm for next weekend in this very active pattern.
